Obama Project for COM 317

I did this video for my Media Convergence class.  I was taking this story and looking at it from the point of view of many Americans and how they felt of the capturing and killing of this mass murderer. When I found out I was relieved to see that even though the attacks of 9/11 were part of the Bush administration, that WE as Americans still carried out the plans to seize the evil mastermind and take him down even in the Obama administration.

WE GOT HIM...President Obama DELIVERS!!!

As the American people were going on about their typical daily lives on Sunday May 1, 2011, the world was interrupted to hear an historical address from President Obama.  He along with his American troops had taken down one of the world's biggest terrorist Osama bin Laden.  Obama came out and assured a nation of the demise of this global killer and declared a sense of hope for the people of the attacks of 9/11.  Now as Americans we should NOT rest in the fact of being satisfied but continue to fight each day to protect our FREEDOM.

Market Yourself (MK 395)......"Wall Phone"

Wall Phones is a great invention that can be in stores everywhere.  It's made for the typical college student who misplaces his/her phone and can't find it after a long nite of studying or partying.  Theres nothing on the market like this innovative invention and should be patented and placed on the market for students everywhere.  My goal is to start off by structuring some type business with colleges such as UNA and Northwest Shoals Community College and get a "Wall Phone" holders in every dorm room so that each student can protect and also help promote to other friends at other colleges about this new sensational invention.

UNA Parking Project

I did this video in my Media Convergence class (COM 317).  The class is great if you like and want to learn how to work with soundslides and videos.  Dr. Sanders is a great and dedicated teacher and will give you the tools to create assignments such as the one you are viewing.  Hope you enjoy this video.  It's my first news coverage video going a little more in depth on the parking problems here at UNA.

Elderly Woman Shuts Down INTERNET in Her Country

In the country of Georgia, a 75 year-old woman is being accused of shutting down the internet of her country and in their neighboring country of Armenia.  Allegedly the elderly woman was out around her house looking for copper wire in her hometown of Ksani when she came across a pipeline which she thought contained this copper wire.  After a few swift strikes to the pipeline with a shovel, over 90% of private and corporate internet users were internet free for over 12 years.  Because of her multiple strikes to the lines, it was later determined that she had struck a fiber optic cable which resulted in the internet shut down in these bordering countries.  The woman now faces up to three years in prison for the damage she caused, however she has been initially released because of her age.  I feel as though even though she did knock out a whole countries internet use, she should not be condemned.  I don't think she did it purposely and would go out in search of fiber optic cables to destroy.  Again, the cables were outside of her house, THINK ABOUT THAT!!!  Let me know what you think about this story.

US Fighter Jet Crashes.......in LIBYA

On Monday, a US fighter Jet crashed in Libya on a mission to help the people.  The two crew members ejected themselves from the plane and were seperated at the point of landing.  One crew member landed in a field nearby to the town of Bu Mariem.  After realizing that he had sustained minor injuries, he approached the people of this town with caution not knowing whether they were supporters of Moammar Gadhafi or members of the opposition.  Shortly after they saw that, the people of the town helped the pilot who was there to protect them by feeding and aiding him.  The crash was the first major loss for US and European forces, which over three nights appear to have hobbled Gadhafi's air defenses and artillery and rescued the rebels from impending defeat.  I feel as though this could start a uproar and could cause the opposition to build a defense that will prevent more US help in Libya.

D1 <--- UNA ---> D2

Recently the University of North Alabama has moved closer to a transition into Division 1 athletics.  Monday at a board of trustees meeting members discussed for the first time if and what actions would be necessary to make the move to D1.  President Pro Tem Steve Pierce told reports of preliminary talks of a strategic plan that would be revealed in May.   With many board members not in attendance, their votes had already been taken into account, and still the majority was in favor of going D1.  President Cale also ignited talk of benchmarks that the university would have to meet in order for UNA to be stable at the next level, one being financially.  As many students are outraged at this, many took a more active approach in going to members in person to display their resentment to the move at a break in the board meeting.  In February, students voted on the issue. About 58 percent of the 1,774 who participated said they didn't favor the move; 70 percent said they didn't want to pay for the move.  I feel as though D1 is a great move.  I understand that I may be somewhat bias by being an athlete but I feel as though most are just outraged by the short term financial increase and are not thinking of the long term success of UNA athletically as well as financially.  Here’s a little interesting fact for those who oppose the move to D1 to chew on: The University of Alabama paid Georgia State University $400,000 to play them this past year to play them.  Now what do you think about the move?

Anthrax Scare @ UNA.....???

Recently, UNA experienced a cancellation of classes due a suspected letter containing "anthrax".  After investigation, the suspect came forward and turned herself in.  The suspect who is a UNA faculty member came forth and turned herself in Monday afternoon after a full investigation that required the Colbert County HazMat Unit, the Florence Police Department, the Florence Fire Department, the FBI, Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Public Health.  The letter was delivered Thursday to a UNA faculty member on the 5th floor of Stevens Hall.  It was later determined that the letter contained a powdery substance, but was still sent to a lab for testing.  The 3 people that came in contact with the letter have been treated for contamination and are okay.  The reason for the letter has not been determined but it was said that it was along the lines of "what comes around goes around".  The teacher has been suspended immediately. I feel as though the teacher showed bad judgment and poor decision making when doing this childish act.  Not only was she putting the recipient at risk but hundreds of innocent students.

If you're HAPPY and you don't know it....get on your profile...go ahead and post it
If you're HAPPY and you don't know it....GET ON FACEBOOK {clap,clap}
***to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It***

Believe it or not, recent studies have showed that spending time with yourself on Facebook is a self-esteem builder.  According to Cornell University, who conducted a 63 person study on facebook users and their emotions, many people feel as though their facebook accounts can reassure their confidence and calm their emotions through any situation.  I feel as though this is true.  "THINK ABOUT IT".... The things you place on your social accounts are mostly positive things, so when you log on to these sites and are reinforced of the "positive self" you have created and portrayed to the world, its natural for your attitude and demeanor to change regardless of the situation.  TRY IT and give me some feedback!!!

CAT-tography

http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/cat-tographer/p24uanh?q=Animal+Planet&rel=msn&from=en-us_msnhp&form=msnrll&gt1=42010

In the times we are in you never know when you'll need your camera to capture a once in a life time moment.  That's what this Seattle based family felt when they hooked a small, lightweight camera to their cat.  Cooper the cat is your normal everyday housecat but has a very unique hobby, he's a photographer or as his family calls him "catographer.  Cooper is hooked up once a week, with a special camera that is attached to his collar.  This camera snaps pictures every 2 seconds and allows him to roam around up to a 10 mile radius taking pictures during his normal cat duties.  His family says that out of the 40,000 plus pictures taken, he has gotten better and better over time.  He has become so diverse in his picture taken that he has graduated from the camera to making films with a video camera.  After his appearances on Animal Planet, Cooper has become a worldwide sensation.  From Facebook to Twitter and having his own blog, Cooper has accumulated over 12,000 plus fans.  He has embraced his role as a worldwide pet figure and allows people to see him up close and in person do work.  So as you can see, technology has emerged even in the pet world.  If you want to check Cooper out go to http://www.photographercat.com/.

10 NEW UPCOMING PHONES...What's NEXT???

In the world we live in cell phones are the most innovative and mobile technology out there.  Why else would they call them "mobile phones"?  I look at it like this, cells are located in every living organism and it seems that in order for our society to live we have to have "cell phones".  The first three weeks of the year have seen more than a dozen announcements from top U.S. carriers, and more are sure to be made at the Mobile World Congress trade show in mid-February. Whether you're with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon Wireless, there's something exciting on the horizon.  Personally I am an AT&T customer and I am looking for a new phone.  I think the AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G will be my choice.  Currently I have a Samsung Blackjack and I'm looking for another smartphone and the Infuse seems to fall right into my preferences for smartphones.  With it's enhanced AMOLED material phone it will make picture resolution and visual applications much better. I'm sure this newly revamped list of upcoming phones will help you too.  Give me your feedback.

10. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (AT&T?)

 9. HTC 7 Pro (Sprint)

 8. LG Revolution (Verizon Wireless)

 7. Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile)

 6. Samsung Infuse 4G (AT&T)

 5. HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon Wireless)

 4. T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Why Has the Media Not Explored the REAL Rosa Parks?

<object width="350" height="36"><param name="movie" value="http://www.onthemedia.org/flashplayer/mp3player.swf?config=http://www.onthemedia.org/flashplayer/config_share.xml&file=http://www.onthemedia.org/stream/xspf/134859"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.onthemedia.org/flashplayer/mp3player.swf?config=http://www.onthemedia.org/flashplayer/config_share.xml&file=http://www.onthemedia.org/stream/xspf/134859" id="OTM_Mp3_Player_134859" name="OTM_Mp3_Player_134859" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" wmode="transparent" height="36" width="350"></embed></object>

During this month you will hear numerous stories of African-American pioneers and heroes who paved the way for younger generations, especially up in coming generations of black Americans.  One of the most popular and talked about stories that you will hear will be about the heroics of one Rosie Parks.  Her actions of bravery and courage aboard a Montgomery bus will be talked about for generations to come.  Not only did Mrs. Parks refuse to relocate her seat on December 1, 1955, but her actions led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott after being arrested for not obeying a white bus driver.

The media has played this depicted story over and over in the minds of people everywhere for years, but no one has ever told the story of Rosa Parks away from the bus conflict.  After her marriage to Raymond Parks, Rosa took numerous jobs, ranging from domestic worker to hospital aide.  She finished her high school studies in 1933, at a time when less than 7% of African Americans had a high school diploma. Despite the Jim Crow laws that made political participation by black people difficult, she succeeded in registering to vote on her third try.  They have never once told of how Parks became active in the Civil Rights Movement, joined the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP, and was elected volunteer secretary.  Parks was a very strong and independent woman that had a lot going for her and was very interesting even before her historical bus standoff.  The media downplays all those accomplishments because they only tell you what they feel you want to hear.  For more of Rosa Parks listen to this podcast and give me some feedback on what you think.

Turmoil Rising

It’s getting ugly over in Cairo.  It seems as though supporters of President Hosni Mubarak and anti-protestors have began an even more intense battle.  Both sides are very passionate about there views and want to be heard.  So passionate that anything will do in order to protect them and place fear into their adversaries.  Camels, horses, wielding whips, and street paraphernalia are the equalizers between these raging groups.  This situation has escalated so much that U.S. officials have issued statements stating that the situation in Egypt is “out of control”.

Some people feel as though this could be the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Others don’t want Islamic radicals to gain any momentum.  Most Americans by now have heard of the attacks on American journalists.  So, what kind of effect do you think this will have on Americans wanting to explore?

Americans right now are at the discretion of those over in Egypt.  That means whatever they feel like reporting and sharing is what we’ll see.  Most likely there will be more social network followers now that we see that a physical presence could come under attack.  My personally feelings are why do we as Americans remain to stay in other countries business like it’s our battle.  I understand that we are beneficiaries of this countries oil and some resources, but is it necessary for us to send reporters and journalist on the battle line and forefront of the turmoil to report issues that are second nature to us.  Think about this and respond to this question.  I’m looking for great feedback.

The world we live in is steadily changing.  One minute we're paying $2.73 cents for gas and 2 weeks later you're coming up just short of $3.00 a gallon.  With the creation of new technology on the horizon daily it's hard to keep up with the latest makes, models, or versions.  So, that means that by the time you purchase one version of the model, by the time you get it home and programmed it will be outdated (not quite but you got the gist of it).  Here's a list of 20 things that will most likely cost more in 2011, presented to you with plenty of time to stock up now.

Cleaning Out Your Outdated Medicines

As I wake up in the morning, feeling the aftermath of my neighbor’s loud party, I slowly move towards the medicine cabinet in search for a bottle of Tylenol.  As I go to open the bottle filled with medicine I notice that the bottle is outdated and I think to myself, "Should I take this outdated medicine?" Is it really possible to use outdated medicines?  Yeah, I think so, but don't expect it to be as effective as it once was during the time frame before the date.  All medical prescriptions give an expiration date, and most labels have discard dates so the disposal of outdated material such as medicines should be fairly simple.  According to the Smart Disposal campaign.....
  • Start by pouring medication into a sealable plastic bag. If the medication is a solid (pill, liquid capsule, etc.), crush it or add water to dissolve it.
  • Add kitty litter, sawdust, coffee grounds (or any material that mixes with the medication and makes it less appealing for pets and children to eat) to the plastic bag.
  • Seal the plastic bag and put it in the trash.
  • Remove and destroy all identifying personal information (prescription label) from all medication containers before recycling them or throwing them away.
Most importantly just keep up with the dates on the medicines and DON'T wait till you need them to discover there outdated.
