Recently the University of North Alabama has moved closer to a transition into Division 1 athletics.Monday at a board of trustees meeting members discussed for the first time if and what actions would be necessary to make the move to D1.President Pro Tem Steve Pierce told reports of preliminary talks of a strategic plan that would be revealed in May.With many board members not in attendance, their votes had already been taken into account, and still the majority was in favor of going D1.President Cale also ignited talk of benchmarks that the university would have to meet in order for UNA to be stable at the next level, one being financially. As many students are outraged at this, many took a more active approach in going to members in person to display their resentment to the move at a break in the board meeting. In February, students voted on the issue. About 58 percent of the 1,774 who participated said they didn't favor the move; 70 percent said they didn't want to pay for the move.I feel as though D1 is a great move.I understand that I may be somewhat bias by being an athlete but I feel as though most are just outraged by the short term financial increase and are not thinking of the long term success of UNA athletically as well as financially. Here’s a little interesting fact for those who oppose the move to D1 to chew on: The University of Alabama paid Georgia State University $400,000 to play them this past year to play them. Now what do you think about the move?
After reading your post i must say that i am still not in favor of the move. The main reason is the cost. I think that it would be a poor decision because of the money burden on tuition that is already going up without this move.
