During this month you will hear numerous stories of African-American pioneers and heroes who paved the way for younger generations, especially up in coming generations of black Americans. One of the most popular and talked about stories that you will hear will be about the heroics of one Rosie Parks. Her actions of bravery and courage aboard a Montgomery bus will be talked about for generations to come. Not only did Mrs. Parks refuse to relocate her seat on December 1, 1955, but her actions led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott after being arrested for not obeying a white bus driver.
The media has played this depicted story over and over in the minds of people everywhere for years, but no one has ever told the story of Rosa Parks away from the bus conflict. After her marriage to Raymond Parks, Rosa took numerous jobs, ranging from domestic worker to hospital aide. She finished her high school studies in 1933, at a time when less than 7% of African Americans had a high school diploma. Despite the Jim Crow laws that made political participation by black people difficult, she succeeded in registering to vote on her third try. They have never once told of how Parks became active in the Civil Rights Movement, joined the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP, and was elected volunteer secretary. Parks was a very strong and independent woman that had a lot going for her and was very interesting even before her historical bus standoff. The media downplays all those accomplishments because they only tell you what they feel you want to hear. For more of Rosa Parks listen to this podcast and give me some feedback on what you think.
I never looked at it that way. I do think that the Rosa Parks Movie that is shown on BET on Sunday Afternoons go in depth about all of who she was. As far as the Media I am very sure when I say that I do believe that they went in depth but gave bits and pieces because you never want to over do it and bore the reader or listener. Good job though.

Sometimes the media just isn't concerned about great incidents that happened in the past. The world sometimes only focus on what is new and who is the next celeb to gossip about. Great story.
